Shae Bishop was born 26 years ago in a small cabin in the woods of Tennessee. He has since lived in Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky, New York, Missouri, and North Carolina. He earned his BFA in Ceramics and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute, studied abroad at the International Ceramic Studio in Hungary and has since been a resident artist at the Babayan Culture House in Turkey for one month, and Red Star Studios in Kansas City, for two years. For the last two years he has been residing in the Blue Ridge Mountains, down the road from the Penland School of Crafts, where he has a home studio and works as assistant to sculptor Cristina Córdova. When not working in ceramic, Shae enjoys hosting dinner parties, designing and sewing his own clothes, and catching snakes.
